7 Factors to Know Which Diamond is best for Jewelry

Shopping for diamond jewellery can be overwhelming, but when you are buying diamond jewellery do consider the below-mentioned factors that can help you know which diamond is best for your jewellery. Knowing the following 7 characteristics of diamonds will make it easier to decide which diamond to purchase.

The 4C’s of Diamond and Its Shapes, Fluorescence and Certificates

1. Carat

A diamond’s weight is measured in metric carats. Each carat equals 200 mg. This allows very precise measurements of the diamond. Next time when you are buying diamonds or diamond jewellery know its weight listed in carats or a fraction of a carat. You might find an extra small diamond that has its weight listed in points. Do not confuse Diamond carat with diamond size.

2. Colour

Few diamonds are truly colourless, though most of them are not. Most of them come in shades of yellow and brown. Diamonds are often sent to a gem lab where it is graded on a scale that begins with D (colourless) and ends with Z (light yellow). Colourless diamonds are the most valuable and hence most expensive. At Entice by KGK we usually advise our customers to choose diamonds between D and I maximum.

3. Clarity

Diamonds are formed below the earth’s surface and hence acquire inclusions and blemishes. Clarity means the number, type and position of these flaws. Diamond clarity is graded on a scale that begins with Loupe Clean (LC) which is flawless and continues to Piqué 3 (P3). At Entice By KGK we prefer to use the diamonds with more clarity.

4. Cut

A diamond’s cut refers to the tiny facets and angles that are cut into the gem. These cuts are formed to enhance the diamond’s reflection. A poorly cut diamond will look dull and lifeless, while a diamond with high-quality facets and angles shines bright. The cut grade of diamond is divided into proportions, symmetry and polish. Each parameter is evaluated separately according to and categorized in grades like Excellent (EX), Very Good (VG), Good (G) or Fair (F).

5. Shapes

Diamonds come in a lot of shapes. The round brilliant cut is the most common and is highly prized; because they have the best cut and brilliance. The other shapes are known as fancy shapes like marquise, pear, heart, Asscher, etc. At Entice, we suggest that buy the shape that suits your look and budget the most. Entice jewelry is made using all kinds of shapes round and fancy.

6. Fluorescence

25-30% of diamonds give off a blue glow when they are exposed to UV rays. Although you won’t be able to see the diamond’s fluorescence with the naked eye, it can be checked through machines. Even the diamond’s lab report mentions its fluorescence as nil, slight, medium, or strong. At Entice, we usually advise avoiding fluorescence altogether.

7. Certificates

The safest way to purchase a diamond and diamond jewelry is to purchase it with a certificate from a reputed gem laboratory such as IGI, HRD or GIA.

Certificates ensure a diamond’s quality by listing its cut, colour, clarity and weight. It also protects the value of the value over time. At Entice we advise you to always buy a diamond with a certificate. Entice jewelry comes with a certificate.
